Tickford Lagonda and The Dream Garage.

It has been brought to my attention that last year Chris Harris from the BBC “Top Gear” program gained access to have a very enviable tour of the RM Auctions stores, which at the time held 140 cars submitted under the title of “The Youngtimer Dream Garage”. This was a collection of special edition 1980’s and 90’s cars owned by a very wealthy un-named individual representing everything he loved about this era when growing up. Chris gets very excited about certain BMW’s, plus Merc, Porsche and Bentley amongst others, but pays particular attention to this Lagonda with its Tickford additions, especially the wheels and classic Avon Turbospeed tyres. The catalogue information mentions the usual Aston Martin and Lagonda past history, stating this car to be one of 11 Tickford variants, but based on what possible valid historical documentation is not disclosed. The description goes on to state that this Lagonda is believed to have been originally ordered as a Tickford by a royal family in the Middle East, which is quite possible as a great deal of the most special Lagondas seem to have sold that way. It is stated this car has aluminium side skirts and front air dam, plus bespoke 15” colour coded BBS spoke alloys which is all correct. Interior adjustments are strangely omitted, apart from the standard digital dash, so we have no idea if this car included a TV and Video, plus Tickford engraved decanters etc. The colour is Rolls Royce Ice Green and was disclosed this 1982 car has also spent many years on the island of Jersey. It became part of the Youngtimer collection in 2016 and although immediately having extensive service work completed by Aston specialist “Nicolas Mee” has remained in storage from that time showing only 15,000Km on the clock. This Tickford Lagonda was auctioned via the Parris branch of RM and sold for a very reasonable 80,500 Euro. 20th Anniversary Celebrate on 23rd July 2017.

On the home front, the Tickford Club had an anniversary gathering at Bedworth on the 23rd July 2017, to celebrate our 20th year as a club. To this were invited a number of ex Tickford employees, and a tour round a engine reconditioning factory to which some of them now work, followed by a photo shoot and a Buffet at the original Hotel . A successful day with no less than 12 Tickford Capri's and 4 Tickford Alvis present, along with a Tickford Calibra and Ford Racing Puma.

Tickford Re-Launch Australia.

The Tickford name has now resurfaced in Australia with the company now improving the Ford Ranger and Mustang for the Australian market, upgrades include all aspects of the vehicles, from engine work, suspension and bodywork, with a new Tickford badge prominently displayed from and rear. We were asked to help launch this venture and laid on over a dozen cars for a photoshoot at Newport Pagnell, ranging from 1930's Vauxhalls through to the Tickford Capri, FRP puma, Orion 1600E and RS500 and even a Frazer metro.

Intertek Group PLC (Intertek) acquire Tickford Test Technology Limited (Tickford)

Intertek Group plc (Intertek), a leading provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries worldwide, announces that it has acquired Tickford Test Technology Limited (Tickford), a market leading vehicle engine testing company. Tickford, a privately owned UK company, was purchased on 31 December 2012 from its management shareholders. January 2014 Interek have now removed the Tickford part from their name and the former Tickford managers who had originally bought out the company have now been themselves bought out. Tickford tests petrol and diesel engines on behalf of manufacturers for a range of services including durability, performance and catalyst effectiveness as well as testing fuels and lubricants for efficiency and Government and industry environmental standards. The company has a strong reputation and market position in the UK. Demand for Tickford's services is expected to grow strongly driven by developments in engine design to improve performance, fuel and emissions efficiency. Strengthening regulations in the EU over CO2 emissions as well as increasing investment in hybrid and other engine technologies will also support growth. Tickford complements similar services already provided by Intertek in the US especially, as well as in Asia and will enable both Intertek's US and Asian customers to divert their European based testing requirements to Tickford as well as Tickford's UK customers to Intertek in the US and Asia. Tickford has a long history of servicing the high performance car industry including at one point being part of the Aston Martin group. It is located in Milton Keynes in the UK with 57 full-time employees. The company will form part of Intertek's Commercial & Electrical division.
